Sorters

The requirement of sorting

In 1951, Chanel tried to mechanize the production of a batch of bottles called "Chanel squares".

One of the greatest difficulties it had to overcome was that of setting sorting criteria standings at levels never attempted before. By doing so, they had, in effect, introduced a radical change in the trade's production outlook shifting it from the manufacturing of a simple solid waterproof package to that of a prestigious object for which not even the slightest defect could be tolerated.

Sorters were specifically trained to carry out this type of grading and selection. Later, they eventually became fully qualified supervisors.

This selective sorting constraint, which can lead to the elimination of perfectly functional articles, continues today to contribute to the Bresle Valley's reputation.
